Although I have already painted the portrait with darker skin tones using the primary colors, I wanted to do another lesson starting on a tinted background that focused specifically on the portrait. Painting the background a solid color first, using gesso or paint, is a great way to start any painting. You can use any color of gesso or paint. I feel that it adds depth to the painting and gives the painting a more satisfying feeling as you work on it. Plus you can allow some of the background to peak through to add character.
I used Tinted Gesso + the Primary Colors.
Sometimes when you finish a painting, you look at it and it looks all right and that's a touch of grace.-Jack Tworkov
