For this exercise, you will need to gather up a handful of collage pieces that feel like they will work together.  Look for a color scheme and designs on the paper that feel like they go together.  Paint a background however you would like, this can simply be a solid color or as many colors as you wish, just remember you'll be filling most of it with collage shapes.  Cut your collage pieces into different shapes that you are interested in, they can be geometric shapes or more organic or a mixture of both.   Begin to place your collage pieces all around the painted background in a way that is pleasing to you.  Once you have it worked out you can glue the pieces down.  Feel free to add more designs on top of your glued down pieces using gel pens, markers, or paint.

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.  - Pablo Picasso
